Basic Hyperbaric Medicine
The DDRC Basic Hyperbaric Medicine (BHM) course covers all aspects of the theory requirements for the education of nurses, operators and technicians in hyperbaric facilities in Europe as detailed in the EBAss/ECHM resources manual. Together with opportunities to experience first-hand the use of DDRC facilities this course will aid any further personal development in the field of Hyperbaric Medicine. Subjects include:

- Pharmacology, Physiology and Side-effects of Hyperbaric Oxygen
- Review of the Applications of Hyperbaric Oxygen
- History and Research
- Practical experience (monoplace)
- Practical experience (multiplace)
Prerequisites/Entry Requirements
The DDRC Basic Hyperbaric Medicine course is aimed at a broad cross-section of health care professionals as detailed by EBAss/EBC. This includes registered and licensed nurses, therapists, technologists, chamber technicians, physician’s assistants, diving medical technicians, physiologists, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, life support technicians, researchers and physicians involved in the delivery of undersea, hyperbaric and aviation medicine and related research activities.
The course is intended to appeal to all hyperbaric unit personnel, some of whom (i.e. medical, nursing and technical staff) may require further training and education specific to their work.
It is desirable for applicants simply to hold a basic qualification in their background discipline (ie medicine, nursing, technical or operating department practice). The subsequent role of any individual in a hyperbaric unit will be determined by his/her background discipline.

- 5 Days, Monday - Friday, 0830 to 1700
Certification
- A DDRC Attendance Certificate, valid towards further study
