    The Diving Diseases Research Centre is one of the foremost training centres in the UK providing specialist diving and hyperbaric courses.
    We provide a 24 hour emergency service for diving incidents and medical emergencies as well as routine therapies so there are plenty of opportunities for hands on experience whilst at DDRC.
    DDRC are members of industry recognised organisations such as the BHA, IMCA & ADC and we are registered with the Health & Safety Executive as a diving contractor.

  • Dive Industry Training Courses

    DDRC provides a wide range of courses for all areas of the diving industry including courses for commercial divers (inshore and offshore), recreational and technical divers.

  • Hyperbaric

    DDRC offers a range of hyperbaric training courses, including Basic Hyperbaric Medicine and Chamber Operator Courses.
    The DDRC Basic Hyperbaric Medicine (BHM) course covers all aspects of the theory requirements for the education of nurses, operators and technicians in hyperbaric facilities in Europe as detailed in the EBAss/ECHM resources manual.

  • General Courses

    DDRC offers a number of Health and Safety and First Aid Courses including:

    • EFR First Aid at Work
  • Doctors Courses

    DDRC offers training courses designed to provide both theoretical and practical experience in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine for doctors. Courses offered include:

Research

Research At DDRC

 

DDRC specialises in the treatment of medical emergencies including decompression illness (the bends), carbon monoxide poisoning, smoke inhalation, and soft tissue infections such as necrotising fasciitis and gas gangrene. It also specialises in the treatment of non-healing wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers, and the treatment of healing issues in cancer patients who have undergone radiotherapy.
It is within the context of these specialities that our research portfolio has grown, issues surrounding diving and wound healing form the heart of the research being undertaken at the Centre. All aspects of our research are being conducted as collaborative efforts with national and international research partners which includes universities, medical schools and healthcare professionals. The Friends of DDRC is a formal group of staff, ex-patients and supporters of DDRC. Friends of DDRC receive a regular newsletter with articles and gossip about what is going on within the Charity, and have the opportunity to have an input into the Charity by contacting Committee members if they wish.

Plymouth Wound Care Ltd provides private, high quality wound care services to the public. The service is nurse led and consists of a team of three highly qualified nurses experienced in tissue viability and the treatment of difficult to heal wounds. The team provide wound care primarily for post-operative and chronic wounds and has strong links with the wound care industry enabling us to work at the forefront of dressings technology and use the best available dressings for the care we provide.

What Do We Do

The Diving Diseases Research Centre or DDRC as it is affectionately known, is a registered UK Charity (Charity Commission Number 279652). DDRC specialises in hyperbaric oxygen therapy for the treatment of medical emergencies including decompression illness (DCI or the bends), carbon monoxide poisoning, and soft tissue infections such as necrotising fasciitis and gas gangrene. DDRC also specialises in the treatment of non-healing and problem wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers and the treatment of healing issues in cancer patients who have undergone radiotherapy.
The Professional Services team offer one of the best training packages available with courses for commercial and recreational divers, hyperbaric chamber staff and diving and hyperbaric physicians, which are all taught by industry experts.
Our Research team actively carries out research into how hyperbaric oxygen therapy works and the benefit to be gained from hyperbaric oxygen therapy especially in regards to diving and wound healing. Our research is conducted as collaborative efforts with national and international research partners which include universities, medical schools, hyperbaric centres and healthcare professionals.
